Sheriff David Dean's goals as Sheriff include developing working relationships with all municipal and tribal law enforcement agencies that impact the county. These relationships will help keep Ottawa County safe for all its residents.
Since taking office as Sheriff in 2021, the Sheriff has added additional patrol deputies and investigators. Through its relationship with the Wyandotte Tribe, the Sheriff's Office fleet has been upgraded while honoring the budget.
Another goal the Sheriff had when running was to improve response time. The Sheriff, working with Miami Police Department, developed a central dispatch to achieve this goal.
Sheriff David Dean was raised and resides in Commerce; he is married and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and trapping.
After graduating from Commerce High School, Sheriff David Dean attended NFO A&M Junior College and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Missouri Southern State University. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and deployed to Iraq during his time with the service.
Sheriff David Dean's law enforcement career began in 1998 with the Miami Police Department, where he retired as a detective before his role at the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
